Conditions for Non-EU Family Reunification
As per the Aliens and Immigration Legislation, third-country nationals residing lawfully in the Republic of Cyprus are entitled to family reunification with their loved ones provided that they meet certain criteria.
- The sponsor must have resided in the Republic of Cyprus lawfully for at least two years.
- The sponsor must possess a residence permit that is valid for a minimum of one year.
- The sponsor must have reasonable prospects of obtaining the right of permanent residence.
There is an exception, where that involves sponsors employed by a Cyprus company, as defined by the Companies Act.
If the company has authorization to employ third-country nationals, a previous stay of at least two (2) years is not required for family reunification.If you fulfill these criteria, you may be eligible for family reunification with your loved ones.

Family Members of Cypriot Resident
- The resident’s spouse, provided the marriage occurred at least one (1) year before the application was submitted and the spouse is over the age of 21.
- Minor children of the resident and his/her spouse (Under the age of 18 years old and not married)

Family Reunification Process
Keep in mind that a non-EU national cannot enter Cyprus on a tourist visa for family reunification purposes unless the sponsor is employed by a firm that is authorized to employ third-country nationals under the Companies Act.
In such a scenario, the Director of the Department may, by derogation, order that an application for family reunification be made when family members are already in Cyprus.
Family members of a Cypriot Resident coming in Cyprus must register at the Aliens’ Registration within seven (7) days of arrival, according to the Aliens and Immigration Laws. They must also apply to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for a residence permit on family reunion grounds within the same time frame.
The first residency permit is provided to family members for a period of one (1) year. The permit is renewable, although it cannot last longer than the sponsor’s residence permission.
TIP: You can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit in Cyprus after living there for just 5 years.
